• Report to the district commissioner or assistant district commissioner as applicable.
• Be familiar with the Cub Scout and Scout program themes.
• Know the unit program planning process.
• Visit meetings of assigned packs/troops/teams/posts regularly, usually once a month.
• Make regular contacts with unit leaders.
• Counsel and assist new unit leaders in assuming a leadership role.
• Visit in person and by phone at least monthly.
• Keep unit leaders informed of district and council activities.
• Periodically review with unit leader the unit's progress toward the Quality Unit Award.
• Help with program planning.
• Contact the unit committee periodically.
• Visit the unit committee meetings.
• Offer help with plans, finances, rechartering, unit leadership, and recruiting.
• Make periodic contact with the Scouting coordinator to offer help.
• Guide the unit through the annual service plan, giving support to the membership inventory and inspection, charter renewal meetings, and charter presentation.
• Contact the head of chartered organization following the charter renewal meetings to describe unit's progress and to make arrangements for the charter presentation ceremony.
• Attend monthly meetings of the district commissioner staff.
• Become trained:
o Personal coaching/orientation.
o Basic training.
o Arrowhead Honor and Scouters Key.
o Council commissioner's conference.
• Attend roundtables regularly. Promote roundtable attendance by all unit leaders and bring all new unit leaders.
• Know the resources available to the unit in the neighborhood, district and council.
• Be prepared to serve Explorer units.
• Earn Distinguished Commissioner Service Award.
